Air turbulence

Air turbulence does not mean the plane in out of control, says FlyingFear.net. It’s simply a fact of nature. Turbulence is typically predictable and acceptable as it is the interaction of jet stream air moving at different speeds. Airplanes – particularly commercial craft designed to carry many passengers – are intended to be at bare minimum twice as strong as they need to be to withstand the worst turbulence. Livingston may have wanted to know this during her anxiety attack. It may not have helped at all though.
